The Home of Scottish Country Dancing in Maidstone

We are a friendly informal group with a membership of around 80, many of whom also belong to other Scottish Country Dance groups and clubs in the Kent area. The group was originally formed in 1975 to help raise funds for Maidstone Mencap. That continues to be our aim and all profits go to this well deserving charity. Funds are particularly for the benefit of the children’s playschool in Cobtree Hall, Mote Park, Maidstone. A more detailed history of the group can be found on the History page.

We meet every Wednesday night between 7.30 and 10.00pm at the Grove Green Community Centre.  The dancing programme starts at 8.00pm.Between 7.30 & 8.00pm some of the more difficult or newer dances are walked through by the MC.  Dances during the programme are also walked through but the first half hour is an opportunity to warm up and brush up on some of the dances in advance.

We have a demonstration team that perform at various local functions.  One of the main events of the year is the Maidstone Mencap Fayre in MotePark.

The 2010 Sumer Dance was held on Saturday 26th June Dancing to The Craigellachie Band at the superb Ditton Community Hall. A great evening was had by all despite the heat.

We have two MCs that alternate on a weekly basis -  John Day and Dick Barford both of whom have many years of experience and are well known figures in the Kent Scottish Country Dancing Community. The weekly programme is usually chosen to include dances that are on programmes for forthcoming dances in the Kent area.

The group has been a member of KASS (Kent Association of Scottish Societies) since 1980
